KidCare Pop-Up School Supplies Pantry is hosted twice
during the school year; once at the end of second quarter, and once at the beginning of third quarter. These periods which coincide with Christmas/Winter break, are when initial back-to-school supplies are either running low or are depleted. KidCare steps in to help
by partnering with local department stores to host its School
Supplies Pantry. This initiative replenishes pantry shelves and
in turn enables KidCare to distribute needed school supplies
to the children we serve.
OpenDoors is transition care.
We consult with California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to determine needs and then work with local department stores to organize pop-up pantries
at their locations. Donations of needed
items are purchased at the host site.
OpenDoors then uses these items to assemble emergency transition care kits for children of all ages experiencing initial displacement and/or multiple transitions.
Assembled emergency kits are then dropped
off at CDSS local agencies.
Our primary focus is to provide respite care while, bridging school year time gaps in learning & routine. We seek to minimize social & academic skills regression during the summer & extended holidays, while also providing a breather for families to rejuvenate, to plan and to re-organize.
